Weird Brunch Menu. I went on Sunday; I really really wanted something sweet, like pancakes or French toast. There was only French toast on the menu, which I intended to order, but they were out (it was around noon). I got a Tuscan quiche instead, which was good, but I still think it's strange to have a brunch menu with only one sweet item.
Best Tuscan Lamb Shank East of San Francisco. Visited Simeons in early October on a fall vacation to the Finger Lakes region and they knocked my socks off. Great food, great ambience and a great wine list to compliment the meal. I wish these guys were in Chicago. Under new ownership, definitely worth a visit. Nice website too!
Worst food/service I've had in awhile.
Awful food, awful service.
We were sat at a cramped table. Our waiter practically bullied us into "kettle chip fondue" -- basically a bag of chips dumped in a dish with nacho cheese sauce on top - $9.00. We also ordered "thai chicken nachos" which was six tostitos style chips with chicken and the same kind of cheese on the "fondue." No seasoning, no flair, way overpriced.
Our water glasses sat empty for ten minutes until I complained to the owner, who DEFENDED the waiter instead of apologizing. It turns out that the waiter (who rolled his eyes at my complaints) is the owner's son.
The owner promised to take the chips off of the bill, but didn't. All in all, it was an angering and disappointing experience.
Stellar location. As a former Ithaca native I've been to Simeon's a few times. It's perks are the great location and nice ambience. The food and service are deplorable but as long as there's thousands of new students every year the restaurant will remain in business. Insiders note: Though things may have changed since I lived there four years ago-- rumor around all the other kitchens--Simeons used to have to microwave all their food because of fire codes. A mediocre mainstay in I-town.
Poor food and service, fine beer and wine.
We've visited Simeons three times for dinner and won't be back. Their seafood ravioli (a "special") was chewy, tasteless, and glued together with a bland sauce; the glazed pork was similarly tasteless and tough, while their Cayuga Burger tasted like nothing more a mashed can of black beans; all were served at room temperature.
Service was friendly but inattentive and the staff tried their best to get us out of the restaurant as soon as we choked down the last bites.
They have a fine wine and beer list; stick with drinks and you'll be okay.
great for a drink. Simeon's has good atmosphere and good service, however the food is disappointing. I've been there twice for dinner and if I go back, it will be for drinks only.
Drinks to Sundaes and a meal in between. With such an impressive list of beers and wines, you won't mind waiting at the bar for a table to open up. Large windows and outside seating provide for some great people watching on the lively corner of the Commons. The sandwiches and salads are reasonably priced and pretty good, but if you spring for one of the main entrees (like the eggplant or stuffed chicken) you will not be disappointed. The Simeon's Surprise brownie sundae is good enough to justify skipping dinner altogether.
Like a Paris bistro, but in Ithaca. You don't go to Simeon's for the food -- you go for the drinks. Although the food is acceptable pub fare with an occasional surprise, the beer list superb. Take your pick from some Chimay, Fin du Monde, Blue Moon, Spaten, or just about anything else you can think of. The decor is also a nice touch, and sitting at the outdoor tables on the Commons makes it feel like Europe.
