Ithaca >Monro Muffler Brake & Service
Honest and caring. Had a tire with a slow leak while visiting from out of town. They fixed it for no charge. Good folks.

Rip off! This used to be a very nice place. Not anymore!
The last two trips, I was horribly overcharged, and pressured into buying more than I need.
Severely Overpriced and Suspicious of Work. I am suspicious of the work that I had done at Monro because I had to get the same work done a little over one month later because the work that I had gotten done had failed. I had my breaks, rotors and calipers worked on and just about 1,000 miles later, when I brought my car in for an oil change (to another body shop) they stopped me and said that my breaks were in bad shape and needed to be redone because the work had not been done correctly the first time. They looked at my receipt from Monro and explained that I was overcharged by at least 3x the standard amount. Please consider going elsewhere for your work, although the more people that I speak with about this...the less faith I have in mechanics. They all seem to be out to take advantage of their customers. There seem to be no laws in place for automotive shops and this is something that needs to change.
scam!. I brought my car in for a simple oil change. They pumped all my tires up to 45 (way too high), and now one of them has a leak. They are either ridiculously inept, or trying to break my tires so I will come back. They also screwed up the sticker they put on my windshield, so that it looked like I was due for another oil change after 1000 miles. Save yourself some trouble and don't go there!
Don't Go Here!! It's a SCAM!!!. Horrible experience at Monro. Each time we've taken in our relatively new car, they've told us we need a repair, ALWAYS between $400-$600. The last few times, I've politely declined. Each time we'd bring the car in following (for oil changes, yearly inspections, etc) they'd bring something up new, and wouldn't mention they prior "essential" repair. I finally called them out on this, stating that issues they'd said that HAD to be resolved weren't mentioned in subsequent visits. These people will act nice, but lack the most basic of ethics and will take every opportunity to take advantage of you. Seriously, DO NOT GO THERE!!!
they'll rip you off so bad you should buy a new car instead.
I went to Monro for a NYS inspection of my 2005 nissan and was told my brake pads were "stuck." The technician showed the brakes to me, poked at the pads, and said they should move around easily. Along with an inspection failure came a quote for $500 of new brake parts.
That night, my friend and I took the wheels, calipers, and pads off. The pads and rotors had plenty of life left, though there was wear on the inner surface. After seeing how snug the pads fit in the calipers, I realized they can't possibly move much (maybe a micrometer!). As the car brakes well and the brake parts all look and perform fine, I conclude that Monro tried to scam me into an unneeded brake job.
Today I went for an inspection at a shop recommended by a coworker. They passed the car and agreed the brakes had normal wear, but weren't near end of life, and were certainly safe for inspection and driving purposes.
Thus, avoid Monro unless you like wasting time and money!!
Quick, honest service. My experience at Monro muffler was excellent. They took my car in right away, showed me exactly what was wrong with the car and explained it clearly. They then repaired it in a timely fashion and their quote came out to be exactly what it cost. It was very reasonable.
Horrible Car Repair, Overpriced Parts, Rude/Incompetant service.
This place has been, in every interaction my friends or I have had with them, extremely sub-par. They BROKE a piece of a boyfriend's car then attempted to charge him for it, and misquoted prices for several car parts (something along the lines of, "Oh, that'll cost $170 for the part." "For just the back ones? Really?" "Oh, sorry. I meant $70. Oops,") all in addition to charging significantly more than their website quotes. The repair man was prone to trying to baffle customers with "technical" talk - often bearing little to NO relation to genuine information on the actual car repair being done - and whenever their mistaken statements were corrected (my boyfriend does know a decent amount about his own car and did a good amount of research before going in), they became increasingly belligerent.
On top of all of this, they attempted to belittle him and threaten him with statements like, "Oh, you COULD drive your car away to somewhere else... If you want to risk the brakes seizing up in the middle of the road" - that particular gem coming in response to the relatively innoccuous questions of, "Do you think my brake pads are too worn? Can I drive it this weekend?" Perhaps a final sign of questionable quality came when they were seen SMOKING inside the actual workshop within a few feet of cars in various stages of repair - just the little comforting, professional touches you like to have a reassurance contemplating a mechanic.
Overall, I would STRONGLY recommend that folks looking for quality service in Ithaca and a professional car repair experience search elsewhere.
