Disappointing customer service.
Several hours ago my fiance and I visited The Jewel Box to look at wedding bands. After having bought my engagement ring through them, we were planning to stay loyal. Unfortunately we had an unhappy experience and will not be returning. I believe in supporting local businesses and it seems from their website that their mission is to offer high quality customer service to the Ithaca community.
We were approached by a customer service rep who spent a good deal of time looking at the door to see what other customers were entering. It was indeed a busy Saturday afternoon and the store was crowded and the two other employees were also with customers - customers to whom they were giving their undivided attention. It seems to me that when one is working with customers considering a major purchase upwards of three thousand dollars that you offer your undivided attention. This was not the case.
When my fiance expressed interest in the Mokume bands he was unable to try them on because his ring size was larger than the display rings. The rep mentioned a kit that could be used to help get a sense of the width/style of the band but did not offer to get it out for us. Nor did he help my fiance by suggesting he try on bands of varying widths to get a sense of what felt best to him. When asked the rep questions about wedding bands that might best match my engagement ring he said 'the best thing to do is what you are doing, just try them on'. He then left me with a try of bands and went to help another customer who had just entered the store. He went into the back and 5-10 minutes later had not returned. We left quite frustrated. We felt as though we were pulling teeth to get him to help us. We are certain that we will go elsewhere for our jewelry needs in the future and recommend our friends do the same.
